It’s World Vegan Day!

What is World Vegan Day?

World Vegan Day is a celebration of people who don’t eat meat, eggs, cheese, honey or anything that comes from or includes an animal. They don’t use any clothing, accessory or object made from an animal such as leather, wool or makeup tested on animals.

History

Although veganism has progressed significantly over the last few years, there is evidence of people choosing to avoid animal products tracing back over 2,000 years.

In 1944, two members of ‘The Vegetarian Society UK’ (Donald Watson and Elise Shrigley) wanted to avoided products made from or tested on animals as well as not consuming meat. ‘The Vegan Society’ was created!

On The Vegan Society’s 50th anniversary, the Chairman (Louise Wallis) decided to commemorate November 1st as World Vegan Day.
